Currently I am watching the now new Netflix series, Wednesday. Therefore it’s little surprise the show is in the forefront of my hippocampus brain.
Pondering the series, the concept for this blog post came in the wind, carried as an energy. I felt the idea travelling towards me and hover.
I captured the thought and dwelled… Is Wednesday Addams a Witch?
Prickles of excitement run free on my nervous system, prospering with delight at the ideal of a witch stereotype known as Wednesday Addams.
Proceeding to consciously consider this question some more, the door next to me creepily creaked open, paused and started creaking shut. An eerie ghost spiked feeling and breeze withdrew me from my deeper thoughts, beckoning me inside to write.
Is Netflix director Tim Burton alluding that Wednesday is a Witch?
The plot starts with an introduction to the Addams Family. The protagonist Wednesday Addams, daughter and at that point a 16 year old teen.
Next we meet her mother Morticia Addams, who we also wonder;
Is Morticia Addams a witch?
Wikipedia confirms; Yes, “Morticia is described as a witch; she is hot, with extremely pale skin and long flowing straight black hair. In one episode she is seen wearing a black pointed hat. She commonly wears black hobble dresses to match her hair, tightly form fitting, with a fringe of octopus-like cloth "tentacles" at the lower hem.”
Questionable reasoning, but clarifying a witch lineage.
Both Wednesday and Morticia experience clairvoyance, commonly referred to as "having visions".
Morticia describes to Wednesday, two types of clairvoyance; ‘doves’ and ’ravens’. Reflections of themselves and parallels of their opposing positive and negative emotion, energy and intuitive readings.
Morticia is seen as a dove or optimist and Wednesday with more soundly pessimistic behaviour, a raven.
The witchy visions are presumed unpredictable and are triggered by touch, objects and people.

Wednesday is quick to show turmoil in her schooling and education, not for lack of academic and musical excellence. The perpetrator Wednesday winds up at the same school her Mother Morticia Addams attended.
The above image includes Morticia, a less than appealing father figure Gomez Addams, Pugsley Addams her brother. Followed by the essentials, manservant Lurch and helpful ally Thing. Who escort Wednesday to this next school.
The school or rather academy where Wednesday Addams is enrolled is called Nevermore Academy.
Named after one of the most infamous poets and poems;
The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe
Nevermore Academy
An academic institution that nurtures outcasts, freaks and monsters
The school is made up of sub groups of misfits; vampires (Fangs), werewolves (Furs), stoners (Medusas) and sirens (Scales). These to me are strange choices of sub groups, nonetheless moving on.
At the current point I am at in the series, is a place where the audience is yet to determine the ‘sub group’ to which Wednesday Addams belongs.
In the no-rules canoe race between sub group teams; Wednesday competes with the cats, those with claws but lacking shape shifting traits. The claws ‘cats’ team is the one her roommate belongs. The team is presumed pre-furs or junior-furs sub group members?
Wednesday sports the matching team cat uniform. Director Tim Burton, does not allow us to feel she is one of them. Rather Wednesday Addams has found a friend in her roommate, Enid Sinclair.
Googling; Is Wednesday Addams a Witch?
As a writer, I start researching a blog topic by typing it into Google. This has to be the most logical first step. Note; plus depending on content referencing lots of books, books, books...
With ambiguous confirmation this particular question returned the following answer from Netflix themselves.
To the answer; Is Wednesday Addams a Witch?
When searched Google returned the below via Netflix.
Netflix responded; “Not exactly, but her powers are certainly supernatural. There's a new Addams joining the family on Wednesday. In addition to the title character (Jenna Ortega) and her iconic family, the series introduces a distant ancestor: Goody Addams (also Ortega).”
A perfectly aloof answer - just enough reveal of the plot. ‘Not exactly’ promises potential. Then a swift change of character and topic.
To be honest this does seem painfully smart; especially so early in the series. The ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ are still a current memory. Sabrina conjurors a similar list of qualities and traits to Wednesday. Not in a bad way; my teenage self craves this tv. It’s delicious and moreish, seeing my shadow self on screen. All dark and gloomy and anti - everything!
When friends have asked me; Should I watch Wednesday on Netflix?
My suggestion is; watch it!
Wednesday gets a thumbs up, from me. Let’s see where the narrative goes. The set and scenes, costuming and make up are delectable delights.
Note to Netflix; make Wednesday Addams a witch! Please.
Blessed Be,
🖤 Bec Black

Witchcraft Spells Magick; Excellent response – thank you for posting. Yes, I can see that now. 🤣 Some how missed that plot analysis. 👍🖤
Stoners are Medusas. They wear beanies so their hair snakes don’t turn people to stone.
